Well not much new has transpired within a few weeks. My motor sergeant, SFC Myers, and I have been waiting here at Camp Virginia to move one more piece of equipment. We have been placed on the back burner so to speak. Though it’s really not something to complain about. Kuwait is very safe. And, I get to see lots of movies. The days can get a little boring, but I’ve recently been occupying my time by putting this website together. It’s pretty interesting here. There are a lot of people from different countries. This is where the Allied soldiers process in and out. Also, I think I’ve been to just about every U.S. camp here in Kuwait for this or that. SFC Myers takes me everywhere he goes for the most part. I usually have to drive. I’ve gotten to see a lot of Kuwait. I’ve gotten to see camels, sheep, desert foxes and lizards the size of small dogs. I’ve gotten to see all kinds of military vehicles that I wouldn’t have gotten to see at Ft. Huachuca. I wish I would have gotten my camera sooner! We haven’t gone on any missions to other camps since our company left and we received our last shipment of equipment from port.
For the most part, I have everything I need. I’ve been waiting to get to Iraq to get settled in before I ask for anything. I still don’t know what things are going to be like there. I’m not real nervous but it is definitely more dangerous there than here in Kuwait. I think I finally get a real bed to sleep in there, though. I can’t wait for that. Hopefully there will be less sand too.
It’s been very, very sandy and windy here for the last few days. The sand storms have been lasting all day for the most part. I’m always digging sand out of my ears and nose. It tastes pretty crunchy too! Usually, it’s only really windy during the hot part of the day. The recent weather has been different, sandstorm all day long. But, it does calm down a couple of hours after sunset. I’ve actually been wearing a scarf so I don’t have to breath in the dust. I have good sunglasses, Wiley X’s, that keep the sand out of my eyes but then I can’t see. It’s kind of a trade off. I can either not see because I’m not wearing my glasses or not see because I have sand in my eyes. I usually choose the latter.
Well that’s it for this time. I’ll write more once I get something to report. If you want to hear about anything or have some questions, let me know. I love e-mail. -- S.M. |

One of many sand storms here at Camp Virginia. I know it just looks blurry, but that’s what you see. Just one big haze. |
